Never lie
I aspire to never lie.
I do not, aspire to always tell the truth.
The energy shift between those two is subtle and significant:
To always tell the truth: An ideal to strive for, disconnected from now.
To never lie: Gives me something to measure within the moment.
Sam Harris has this definition of lying: "To steal from another's reality".
I could choose to always tell the truth. To declare in every moment what is true for me. Comment on everything that I see in the name of truth-telling.
Or, I can consider the other in the moment:
What reality are we sharing?
Do I know that we have a difference?
Do they know?
If only I know there is a difference, and I let that difference continue: Then I am stealing from their reality, and I am lying.
