"Planting a seed"

When we are "planting a seed" — where are we planting it? Are we busting into another's field and just stuffing our ideas into their ground?

Rather impolite to tilt another's field. Especially if uninvited.

I now attempt to invite people into my garden and give seedlings as gifts.
