"Please or thank you"

Another belief to test to the edges of reason:

All anyone ever say, is "Please" or "Thank you" - Marshall Rosenberg

That is the totality of our communication.

When someone screams at you across the floor of a coffee shop they are asking "please, I have pain, see me".

Saying "thank you, I see you" in different words will lead to another "thank you" from them, in different words.

I play with this: Putting all utterances in one of only two buckets. Please or Thank You.
