Straight man trope

The straight man frames the situation and sets up the moment. With elaborate care, he would paint the picture and set up the joke.

Then the funny man would make it.

The laugh gets remembered, and the work to get there goes unnoticed.

We know this trope because it plays out in many successful outcomes.

Except this: It is not funny that the straight man gets forgotten in those non-comedic outcomes.
