Strict and loose thinking

Gregory Bateson classified "loose" and "strict" thinking.

Loose thinking gets to skip steps, explore, and jump freely from assumption to assumption. With loose thinking, we explore fast.

Strict thinking requires every step to be verified and every assumption to be validated. With strict thinking, we explore deliberately.

We need both.

The amusement I have is that to identify which kind of thinking you are doing: You need strict thinking.
