Supporting dogs

Watching joyous dogs:

These dogs have not been shown how to stay out of the kitchen. No one taught them how to interact with guests by modelling being demure and careful.

What they have is support and a clear signal of what is expected.

Perhaps dogs (old, you, and human) cannot be taught: We can only support.
