Truly not caring
Norm Macdonald was a comedian on a show that allowed him to test his jokes on a practice audience before the main event.
He also believed that comedy was to lead you somewhere and then break your expectations.
Norm would always choose to continue telling the jokes that flopped with the test audience, to the live show to millions of people. Norm thought a performance where no one laughed was hilarious – it broke everyone's expectations.
Norm had his own internal and consistent logic.
He did not care what others thought of him.
Norm knew his craft and worked at it diligently. That is what he cared about.
