99% of the vanilla flavour in the world is imitation vanilla. A single-flavour compound manufactured out of mostly petroleum.

In a high-heat situation like baking cookies: Everyone chooses the imitation vanilla. Real vanilla does not "taste vanilla enough". It is only with complex flavours and pairings where vanilla with its multiple flavour compounds stands out.
