Workshop misdirect

There is a brand of workshop misdirect that I have inflicted:

I would tell a moving story to draw people in. The punchline would be a sharp twist that shakes and shocks the audience.

It is effective, for most.

For those who feel their trust was broken it is devastating and the story is unrecoverable. So is the trust.

For them, the context was missing to contain the shock.
